Stephen King’s ‘Christine’ Remake on it’s Way

by | Jun 9, 2021

What do you do if you see a spaceman? Park in it Dude! Howdy horror fans, it seems that the entire world is going Stephen King crazy at the moment, with more films, reboot and TV adaptations’ being announced every week. This weeks news is car related… yep that mean 1958 Plymouth Fury is being pulled from the wreckers yard and back to the shining heights of cinema.

Sony Pictures and Blumhouse are rebooting Christine for a modern audience. Deadline report that Bryan Fuller, best known for TV series including Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, and Dead Like Me, is heading behind the wheel on this one.

The entire production has some pretty big wheels to fill in, as the original John Carpenter directed feature film is still regarded as a cinematic classic. The film, and book, tell the tale of a shy teen who comes out of his shell after he buys a ’58 Plymouth Fury to fix up. However, the Fury seems have taken control of the poor kid, and even has a mind and will of its own. It’s terrifying stuff.

There were plenty of scenes from the book that never made its way into the 1983 film, such as a scene where Christine demolishes a house just to get to a victim cowering upstairs. It’s this “Terminator” styled vibe that I always liked about the book, and I can’t wait to see what modern effects could bring to this classic King story.

Right now this remake of Christine is very much in the earliest stages, but it’s certainly an exciting prospect and one to look out for. More soon.
