Jason Blum Wants More Michael Myers after ‘Halloween Ends’

by | Oct 4, 2021

Whilst we have all been led to believe that the third part of David Gordon Green’s epic Halloween reboot may actually see the end of masked killer, Michael Myers, producer Jason Blum certainly has other plans.

Halloween is set to return this October thanks to the second outing of Green’s new series, called Halloween Kills. The film comes after the successful semi reboot of the series in 2018, where the film continued off from Halloween, seemingly ignoring any sequels after the original. Whilst H20 pretty much did the same thing, Halloween (2018) managed to capture the nostalgia value of the franchise, with the last film being Rob Zombies reboot sequel Halloween 2 in 2009. Fans ate up the new direction of the film and Blumhouse Productions quickly green lit two more films, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.

At the time of announcement, it seemed pretty cut and dry that this new trilogy would see the end of the dreaded Halloween killer, with Laurie Strode’s battle against Myers finally coming to a close. After all, the title “Halloween Ends” is a pretty ominous title to tease us with, without having some sort of payoff. However, Jason Blum has been throwing some spanners in the works recently, hinting that there’s more to come. Speaking to ComicBook.com, Blum spoke of his joy making the films and his hopes of pushing things further.

“We made an arrangement for three movies. We had a three-picture marriage with Michael Myers… I would love to extend it. If Malek [Akkad] would like us, I’d love to extend it, but we’re very busy making sure the third movie is spectacular because that’s our immediate job and if it goes beyond that, I’d be thrilled. But there are currently no plans for us to be involved after this third movie.”

So whilst there is nothing on the cards right now, don’t expect Michael Myers to be 100% down and out in 2022 when Halloween Ends hits screens. If we know anything about producer Malek Akkad’s family legacy, with his farther Moustapha Akkad being one of the biggest driving force behind the entire franchise, it’s that they would keep Myers in corpses for years to come if they have half a chance. And to be honest, that’s just fine by me!

However, if they do more ahead with more films, they will surely have to move beyond the scope of Myers vs Strode, as majority of Halloween sequels did. Producer on the new trilogy Ryan Freimann has spoken out before that if their were more films, they would need to explore new stories.

“I think there are other ways and other mediums in which to explore this franchise.. I wouldn’t necessarily say … I mean, there’s always interest in exploring Season of the Witch again. Is it something we’d race to do? I don’t know. Our focus has been COVID delays, figuring out how to do Halloween Ends and shoot it, COVID protocols on that, all of those things, coming out of that. That’s been our focus … But I think it would be something, where we explore other, outside areas of the Halloween universe… I think after this many films, too, we have to look other places, just to get a little more creative, right?”

No matter which direction the future of the franchise is taken, I’m sure the loyal fans, and the new fans picked up by the modern trilogy, will all be super excited about seeing Myers with more screen outings. Just as long as they don’t go down the Season of the Witch route, been there, down that. Save it for a streaming tv series.

Bring on more Michael Myers!!!
